Science in Nature

Learn how nature displays the wonder of its magnificence!

Tree roots (like those in the background photo) along the trail can add beauty as well as danger.  Roots can spread two to three times the distance of the branches.

Lichen and fungus grows along tree trunks. Some folks say that if a tree has fungus growing on it, it has started to rot somewhere on the inside.  Keep an eye out to observe if the lichen in your area grows on one side of the tree or in the shade more.

Erosion can be a big problem along the trail, especially where there is an exposed slope.

Shadows along the trail can help keep track of time.  Nature makes its own sundial!
