Traversing with Grit and Doubts

The day began with trepidation which lasted until...

...well until I made it to the top of Max's Patch Dome and looked out over the view. There were people camping under the stars at the top. The hike down was a winding path through woods and a tunnel of trees. Our planning was enough, I learned and the trip was a success, except for....

An 'ole teacher and a spring break. I am thinking it worked and it worked well! We were immersed in nature, breathing fresh air, unhindered by pollution. The packs would only get lighter as we traversed the snaking path. The signs made it easy for us and provided encouragement. (We were grateful for the trail maintenance teams and trail magic!)

The surfaces we walked upon required focus as there were roots and rocks, bridges and boulders, gravel and leaf covered ground. Sunlight was a grand companion who teased us with heat and shade.

Although we passed quite a few short term hikers and thru-hikers out for the full jaunt, we were mostly on our own. The evening campsites were quiet early as most hikers headed out at dawn to get a full day of steps in. Reading the campsite journal found at most shelters was entertaining and inspiring. We left our mark in the journal and left only footsteps along the trail. It matters to much to be assuming and nature can bring you to your knees with humility.
